Car and permit questions for a week-long backcountry trip

Hi, thanks for this useful website.

My brothers and I are planning on backpacking through Glacier National Park Montana for a week in July, and wanted to know what the best way and location to leave our vehicle for 7 days would be.

Also what permits would be essential and possible for us to start retrieving now rather than upon entrance to the park? Thanks again!

Answer:

Hi David,

There’s a lottery every year for backcountry permits that you can apply for. I highly recommend that route to begin with, as you stand the best chance of getting the backcountry hike through Glacier that you want.

My favorite area of Glacier National Park for a 7 day trip is through the belly region or the northwest region near Polebridge, Montana.

I sell customized travel itineraries for $19.95 with. Dozens have had amazing Glacier National Park vacations thanks to these itineraries.

Important to get permit

by: Perry

You need to get a permit ahead of time. You can get permits while there at the Ranger Station for backcountry trips, but putting your name in the lottery is the best way to get the backcountry trip you most desire in Glacier National Park
