Hi, I’m Rachel Piontak from Catoosa, Oklahoma, and today I’m going to talk about my Petzl Elios Climbing Helmet.

I love this helmet. I partially love it because it saves my head from falling rocks and from smashing it into things when I climb, but also because it fits very well.

I tried on a lot of helmets before getting this one. Some very wise climbing friends told me some very practical things, like, ‘You should actually try helmets on and not just order them from the Internet’. So I did. And I’m glad.

I’ll show you how this looks in a second. There were several helmets that I tried on that were more bulbous, I suppose. Kind of like an alien. They sort of sit on top of your head instead of with your head in the actual helmet, and I didn’t like that at all. And that’s what I like about this Petzl helmet.

So while it still (covers your head), it isn’t (floating above your head and not functioning).

It fits very well. Like all helmets, it has a little thing in the back to tighten and loosen. When you turn the knob left, you tighten the circumference of the actual helmet. When I climb, I tighten it tight enough so I can move my head around, and then I clip it beneath my chin. The chin clip is also very adjustable.

I also purchased this helmet because my husband and I wanted to share a helmet, and this was one of the only few brands that could fit both of us. He’s 5’ 11” and just built differently than I am, so it was a very, very good thing to find a helmet that can fit us both just by adjusting the back knob and by adjusting the neck strap. That’s also another good thing about this helmet, is that not only do I like it, but it’s also the most versatile one that I’ve found. When it comes to be summer I will grow to appreciate these vents more, because I read that it helps keep your head cool. But as of right now, I keep wearing hats under it because I’m cold, so I can’t speak about the vents yet.

How long have you owned it for?

I’ve owned it for, probably nine months or so.

And what don’t you like about it?

I guess I don’t like that, very occasionally, the headstrap can get snagged, so the two head straps would be uneven, so you have to do adjusting. But that’s only happened one or two times.

And how many stars out of 5?

I would give it 5. Because I like the color and that’s just a bonus, but mostly it’s a really great helmet.

Great, well thank you so much!

Yup!
