West Glacier Montana: Hotels & Lodging

West Glacier Montana offers a unique perspective on Glacier National Park.

From peaceful sunsets on Lake McDonald’s shore to pizza at Jammer Joe’s to the scenic window views from your room at Village Inn at Apgar.

No Glacier National Park vacation should bypass a few nights in West Glacier Montana.

Apgar Village Lodge

This privately owned lodge has 48 units (28 of which are cabins), 26 kitchenettes and has a comforting, home-away-from-home feel to it.

Nestled at the head of Lake McDonald, it’s suited for those that enjoy a night snuggled around the television after an exhausting day of adventures (though the rooms have televisions and showers, there are no telephones).

Running low on supplies? Stock up at the general store right around the corner.

Don’t feel like cooking after a long day of adventures? One of the best café’s in all of Glacier National Park is next door.

Need to cool off with an ice cream cone after a long day hike? You’ve come to the right place!

Apgar Village Lodge is open from the first of May until mid-October.

Lake McDonald Lodge

Having spent two summers living and working here, I must begin by confessing my bias…

But I believe Lake McDonald Lodge is the best West Glacier Montana lodging option.

Originally built as a Hunter’s Lodge in 1913 by John Lewis when Glacier was still a wild country, Lake McDonald Lodge transports its visitors to the West in the comfort of modernity. Giant, wooden logs arch overhead, hunting trophies mount the lobby’s walls, and guests can read a book to the tune of a crackling fire at night in its fireplace.

A skip away is Lake Mcdonald’s peaceful shore where boat rides are offered all summer long. And just a stone’s throw in one direction is Apgar Village, while the other’s to trailheads for Avalanche Lake, Bear Mountain, and Hidden Lake—some of the most rewarding day hikes on the west end of the park.

With 100 rooms in the main building and about a dozen, rustic, television-less cabins a stroll away, Lake McDonald Lodge offers a vacation rental for any style of travel in Glacier National Park.
