Why Travel to Whitefish MT

Whitefish MT is unquestionably the most inviting and eccentric of all modern towns within close proximity to Glacier National Park.

Only a thirty-minute jaunt from West Glacier, Montana, Whitefish provides the perfect vacation from the vacation. However, don’t travel here for a day trip just because the weather in Glacier National Park’s dismal—Whitefish, Montana’s weather won’t be any better.

Whitefish, Montana’s tourism options are endless: expansive Whitefish Lake offers fly fishing and boating opportunities, while the Whitefish Lake Golf Club provides one of the most scenic 18 holes you could ever play. Or ride the gondola to the summit of Big Mountain and soak up the views of Glacier National Park 17 miles away.

Bored of all this? Within Whitefish, MT's few streets, entertainment can be found from tasty, micro-brewed beers at The Black Star Brewing Company or in its eclectic mix of bars and pool halls.

Whitefish, Montana Property Boom

At the time of the 2000 census, the population was a mere 5,032—but this fails to factor in the recent, massive population boom it experiences during the summer months. As locals will tell you, the vibe changes as the new, wealthy residents who bought up Whitefish, Montana property return for their brief sojourn.

Indeed, Whitefish, MT seems destined to be the next (and most ideal) vacation/trophy home locale for the wealthy in Montana’s Flathead Valley.

Many residents bemoan this influx of vacation-home citizens, but the truth is more good has come about through their arrival than bad. Whitefish, Montana’s tourism has increased, causing businesses to boom, dining opportunities diversify (who would have thought that fresh sushi was a possibility!), and the economy has grown with new services catering to this clientele.

However, unlike Colorado’s Aspen or Wyoming’s Jackson Hole, Whitefish’s ski resort of Big Mountain is still one of the nation’s best-kept secrets.

Although it has grown into a modern-day resort with all the amenities and clientele that follow such a drastic transformation, fresh powder’s still a possibility any day of the week and lift lines don’t snake on for miles with snobby, coastal intruders

Indeed, Whitefish MT has managed to meld the best of both worlds. One can only hope it continues to do so.

There is grimness in this picture as well though. With new money revitalizing the town, even the cost of humble, Montana cabins that residents have called home for decades are starting to sky-rocket.

With Whitefish, Montana’s property and land costs rising, the ski bums, eclectic woodsmen and locals seeking to escape the hustle of the world might soon find this slice of heaven unaffordable on their modest budgets.

Only time will tell…
